About

I am a Grammy-nominated, multiple-award-winning choral conductor, clinician, and consultant based in Omaha, Nebraska.

Choral music is my calling. I am incredibly active in the profession: teaching collegiately, conducting and teaching applied voice in the community, and traveling to do honor choir, clinic, and adjudication work. I also regularly bring performing ensembles to state conferences, and present interest sessions and reading sessions for my colleagues.

Publications & Media

Included here are live recordings of ensembles under my direction, as well as articles and octavos I have written/arranged and published over the years. Check back often for updated resources, and please contact me if you have ideas about materials that might be useful to you.

Professional Activity

Sing Omaha

Sing Omaha is one of the nation’s largest and most successful music education and performance nonprofits. I founded this organization in 2007, and continue to serve as the Executive and Artistic Director, overseeing 10 choirs, two studio locations, and more than 30 faculty and staff while maintaining a voice studio of 12+ students and conducting two of Sing Omaha’s ten ensembles.

Peru State College

I have served as the Director of Choral Activities at Peru State College since the Fall of 2014 where I conduct the institution’s two concert ensembles: Concert Chorale and Women’s Choir. I also maintain a full classroom load, with advanced Music Theory and Music History courses. I am active on committees as well, and currently serving on the Teacher Education Committee, chairing the Assessment Committee, and serving on the Faculty Senate.

American Choral Directors Association - Nebraska

I have served on the Nebraska Choral Directors Association board since 2009 and was elected to a three-year term as Treasurer in 2018. I’ve conducted ensembles on state conferences three times since 2012, and was selected to conduct the organization’s first All-State Concert Choir in 2019.

My Mentors

I am grateful to serve among passionate, expert choral music educators, and to have studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the profession.

Z. Randall Stroope

Composer & Conductor

Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Oklahoma State University

Z. Randall Stroope is an American composer, conductor and lecturer. He has had recent conducting engagements at the Santa Maria sopra Minerva (Rome), Hong Kong, Barcelona, Singapore, Canterbury Cathedral (England), Berliner Dom (Germany), Salzburger Dom (Austria), St. John (Canada), Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), Carnegie Hall (New York), and seven performances for Mass at the Vatican.

  • I studied applied voice, choral conducting, and choral composition with Dr. Z. Randall Stroope as an undergraduate from 2000-2005, and as a graduate teaching assistant in the Oklahoma State University Master’s program from 2010-2012.

Dr. Peter A. Eklund

Professor of Music

Co-Chair of the Voice/Choral Area and Director of Choral Activities | Choir | Nebraska

Dr. Eklund divides his time among four important roles: conductor, guest lecturer, editor/arranger (his own choral series with Santa Barbara Music Publications and Colla Voce—and his set of Moses Hogan arrangements is published by Hal Leonard), and teacher/mentor (with numerous former students performing professionally on both US coasts: Broadway, Lincoln Center, TV, and Oscar winning movies—and everywhere in between).

  • Dr. Peter Eklund served as my primary professor and academic advisor in the Doctoral program at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where I studied choral conducting.
